From Grandpa Lowell
Ingredients:
1 quart fresh/frozen black-eyed peas (small pack from store)
1/3 cup, or less, onion
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pinch of baking soda
3/4 teaspoon sugar
Dash of whipping cream or milk to color the water
3 pats of butter (about 1 1/2 teaspoons)
